OUR HISTORY

In June 2007, student council leaders from each of the Fargo-Moorhead area high schools got together and formed the Metro Student Council Ambassadors. As a group, they wanted to do something big, something to highlight their senior year of high school. A couple of phone calls, lots of donations and few espressos later, Fill The Dome was born. The goal? Fill the entire floor of the FARGODOME (80,000 sq. ft) with food for local food pantries.​

Donations collected through Fill the Dome benefit the Great Plains Food Bank and are distributed through its network partner food pantries, shelters and soup kitchens located in the Fargo-Moorhead and surrounding areas ensuring that all donations stay local. Since its inception, Fill the Dome has collected more than 2.4 million pounds of food and collected more than $700,000 to help feed those in need. Each year, more than 135,000 individuals will turn to the Great Plains Food Bank for helping filling their nutritional needs.

This year, the Metro Area Student Ambassadors are carrying on the tradition by hosting the 16th Annual Fill The Dome event. Led by a group of outstanding young leaders from area schools, more than 50 schools will be raising food and funds to help those in need throughout the state of North Dakota as well as Clay County in Minnesota. In addition to seeking donations, Metro Area Student Ambassadors hope to make an impact through a new mission statement: Washing Away Hunger. The students hope to feed those in need, teach community members about the needs in our state and region, and develop a community where we care for and look out for the needs of each other.

OUR MISSION

The Metro Area Student Ambassadors have adopted the phrase “Be a Soup-er Hero” to describe Fill The Dome’s mission. Fill The Dome is aimed at feeding those in need in our community, teaching about our community needs, and developing volunteerism.

• Pantry staples like flour, sugar, condiments

• Canned vegetables

• Cooking essentials like olive oil, spices (salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, etc)

• Applesauce and other canned fruits

• Instant meals (mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, etc)

• Grab and go snack items like granola bars, dried fruits

• Cereal

• Canned soups, chilis, stews

• Rice
